Here's the post-match reaction from The Gaffer, a Player and a Partisan!

11th August 2018

COLFC 3 - 1 Silsden

FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round

The Gaffer

"After all the change I’m glad we’ve got off to this start. The lads have been brilliant and a credit to the club -  it’s set us up to kick on now! I'm happy to get the win and have week of training to work on stuff, and let the lads recover from a tough week! "

Craig Robinson

The Player

"I thought it was a professional performance - all the lads put a real shift in and played some great football throughout the game. We also had to dig in at times when we were under pressure, but we go through to the next round which was our main aim. Also a mention to the fans who were brilliant all game."

Joe Holt

The Partisan

"What a great cup tie! A game that had everything; early Purps pressure giving us a deserved lead with the magnificent Joe Holt running the show from midfield grabbing the early goal. After a Purps’ penalty was saved it could have been easy for heads to go down but the midfield nuisance Holt broke the deadlock before another quick goal was added by McGrath. 2-0 was a confortable and deserved lead for City Of Liverpool going into the break and it was soon extended when Jamie McDonald scored an outrageous goal from just inside the opponents half; memories of the Matty Williams play-off final goal came back as many frustrated Purps shuffled out of the club house still enjoying their half time pint missed this audacious strike. Silsden showed the quality that won them the first division title last season in the 2nd half and piled on the pressure but they only managed a consolation goal after their own saved penalty relieved a few Purps’ concerns.

As I say a game that had everything, missed pens, wonder goals, nasty tackles & plenty of needle between the two sides and a bumper crowd were there to witness it all. A great advert for the FA Cup!"

Northwich Victoria 1 - 2 COLFC

Hallmark Security League

The Gaffer

"We’ve started the season with two tough away games against teams I feel will be up there come end of season and to come away with 6 points is a great start in which the lads have shown great team spirit and I couldn’t praise them enough and I’m proud of them but I also feel there is a lot more to come from this squad the more we play together and the fitter we will become"

Craig Robinson

The Player

"Great result last night, against a good side who will no doubt be challenging come the end of the season. Took us till the second half to really get going but we got wot we deserved in the end which was the 3 points. Big shout to all the purps who came and gave us immense support again hope this will only continue and get even better as the season goes on. #UTP"

Danny Dalton

The Partisan

"Good win for the lads against tough opposition who will probably be up there at the end of the season. What was most pleasing was that this was the type of game last season we would have drawn or lost and it was great to see us close out the game. There’s a real buzz amongst the supporters and hopefully we can keep this going in front of what we expect to be a big crowd vs Silsden in the fa cup on Saturday. Up The Purples."

1874 Northwich 3 - 6 COLFC

Hallmark Security League

The Gaffer

"Yesterday was all about 3 points for me with everything that has gone on through the summer the lads have really stuck together and the new players have fitted in really well, there is great atmosphere in the group! I'’ve spoken all week about how good a squad we have but we need to show it on the the pitch which we did today! The work rate and desire to win was there to see but I feel there is a lot more to come from this team! We now need to turn our thoughts to Northwich Victoria which will be another tough game which the lads are ready for! Once again I would like to thank the fans who turned out again an didn’t stop singing, let’s go again Wednesday!"

Craig Robinson

The Player

"To win at 1874 is a great result. To dominate the game the way we did and score 6 is impressive. We've got to keep the momentum going, keep improving and continue putting 3 points on the board. What an atmosphere the supporters created as well, best atmosphere ive played in front of!!"

Craig Cairns

The Partisan

"Said in me tweet yesterday that first things first THAT was some turnout from the Partizans yesterday! Superb first win & this team just reeks of goals & if we tighten things up defensively then god knows where it could lead. Whether playing 4-3-3 will work EVERY game is another matter but either way we are gonna cause teams some serious problems this season! Wednesday already feels like a massive game but we’re obviously up for it & I can’t wait for that or the rest of the season. UP THE PURPS"

Prestatyn Town FC 2- 1 COLFC

The Gaffer

"Today was a good test against a competitive team which was frustrating at times but pre season is about looking at different things and getting players minutes on the pitch! There’s a few things we need to look at but we now look forward to Tuesday against Runcorn, but once again the support was great from the travelling fans out there in numbers supporting the lads and we couldn’t thank them enough!"

Craig Robinson

The Player

"Although yesterday was a disappointing result I felt we had enough chances to win the game but it’s another game under our belts and move on our game on Tuesday which will be another tough test!"

Craig Cairns

The Partisan

"It was great to see where it all began for COLFC and a brilliant turn out of Purps in great spirits! It was a very competitive fixture and a good run out with the season only two weeks away... There’s going to be healthy competition for places as there’s quality in every position and Robbo’s got a selection headache for the starting eleven! It’s obviously disappointing to lose but there were so many positive signs and we’re going to be strong this season"

Merthyr Town FC 4 - 2 COLFC

The Gaffer

"Yesterday was a great experience for the players with fans turning out in numbers to support them for such a long trip! I was really pleased with the performance as with only few numbers from the first team mixed with young lads from the reserves playing against a really good Merthyr team who play 2 tiers higher! The lads worked hard and gave a good account of themselves especially the lads from the reserves and would like to thank James for hard work he put in putting the team together and managing it so well on the day! It was a great day out an would to thank all the fans who travelled to support us, it just shows how special this club is!"

Craig Robinson

The Player

"Delighted to get my first goals of pre season in a very competitive game. Great experience for some of the reserves lads and a fantastic day all round. I suppose it’s no surprise really but unbelievable travelling support by the COL faithful who always travel in numbers. On to the next one."

Dave Forbes

The Partisan

"Great day at Merthyr and a very welcoming bunch!

I thought the lads gave a good account of themselves considering the mix of reserves and first team players against a team who compete at two levels above them with Forbes leading the line well. A couple of their goals were unstoppable, the free kick especially."

Mark Howard

COLFC Under 19s 0 v 4 COLFC First Team

The Gaffer

"Great day for City of Liverpool with the first team playing the U19. The game started with a high tempo, both teams getting the ball down to playing at every opportunity. With some great play from both sides.

As the game developed Kevin and Joe where outstanding in the center of the pitch dictating play. All the players put a shift in and where made to work hard by the academy lads. Great for Tom P to get off the mark and Cairns to find the net again. The goal keeper Patrick who stepped in last minute was outstanding for a 16 year old, well done.

It was great to see the academy lads who were eager to impress. We already have a few academy players with us and I can only see that number increasing.

Well done to all players involved."

Tony Dunne

The Player

"Another good pre season run out for the lads against a very talented U19s side who didn’t shy away in any part of the game (couple tasty tackles as well).

All about gettin the fitness up ready for the new season which we are all really looking forward to. #UTP“

Danny Dalton

The Partisan

"It was an organised and professional display from the Purps against a talented and energetic crop of lads from the youth team. Danny Dalton was imperious at the back whilst Jack Hazlehurst was lively all game, as usual.

It looks like quite a squad we’ve got assembled for 2018/19."

Vauxhall Motors 1 v 3 COLFC

The Gaffer

"Like to thank Vauxhalls for the fixture - the facilities are excellent. Very happy with the performance from all the players.

All players completed 45 minutes or more and standards remained at the same level from last season. Great to have some of the academy players involved. Les looked as though he had never been away.

Great to see Cairns get off the mark but him and Forbes had some great play which is excellent to see. There is a fantastic atmosphere in the squad and every player is looking forward to playing the next game and getting the season started."

Tony Dunne

The Player

"Good to be back playin with the lads. New signings looked good aswell, so lookin forward to gettin the season started now"

Kevin McEllin

The Partisan

"Liked the look of Cairns tonight bagged 2 on his debut and Pirlo in the middle 2nd half looked a baller UTPs"
